For what is it to die,
But to stand in the sun and melt into the wind?
And when the Earth has claimed our limbs,
Then we shall truly dance.

-- Kahlil Gibran

For many of us who savor the remarkable beauty with which we are blessed here in the Redding area, the outdoors can be as serene a place to pray—perhaps at times even more so—than inside the walls of our stately sanctuary. It is in this spirit that the idea of the Meditation & Memorial Garden took root. Located in the northeast corner of the Church grounds, the Meditation & Memorial Garden has been designed as an area of natural beauty, a place of peace, a place to be still and listen to God’s words of assurance.

The Garden, with its simple stone wall inspired by those built by the first settlers of Redding, is a place to lay to rest the cremated remains of loved ones as well as a place to memorialize those whom we wish to celebrate in life.

The stone wall has hidden niches inside designed for the interment of ashes; or, ashes can be scattered directly in the soil. Granite stepping stones engraved with the names of loved ones no longer with us—or perhaps in recognition of someone special in the life of your family—create a meaningful path up to the center of the garden, welcoming visitors for generations to come. The Garden itself, simple in design, contains teak benches to complete this lovely retreat.

The Meditation & Memorial Garden is funded from the on-going sale of the niches, recognition stones and plantings. The details are explained in the Plantings Pictures & Prices Poster, Giving Opportunities List, Letter of Intent, and Terms & Conditions available from the Printer-Ready Forms page. Members of the Committee or the Ministers will gladly answer your questions.
